Poem written in 4 minutes 44 seconds, while listening to Legionnaire by the Decemberists

16 03 2009

Italicized sections are not my own words, they are lyrics from the song. Geniuses! They have an album coming out on the 24th of this month, I can hardly wait.

You and me
skipping down an absent street
sidewalks slick with rain
we did not slip,
did not trip
gliding on a cement lake.

If only some rain
On the houses and the boulevards

Some rain did fall
A wish granted,
Your long arm
looped through mine
we skipped so high
we took flight

With the roar of cars
and the lulling of the
café bars,
the sweetly sleeping sweeping of the Seine

Our toes barely touched
the pink eaves
and tree leaves
as we flew
Mary Poppins-like
over the drenched city.

Lord I don’t know if I’ll ever be back again.
